You’re a twisted beast. I’m a twisted beauty. We’re totally meant to be, handsome. It’s written in the fairytales.”
Hello friends! Welcome to the fourth book review of the Dark Verse series by the amazing RuNyx. It feels unreal to start and almost finish a series in such a short period of time because it usually takes me a couple of years to complete a series or catch up to the latest book. However, I am madly in love with the entire series and have been expressing my love for it in the previous three book reviews over the past few months. From the plot to the writing to the characters, this has quickly become one of my all-time favourite series, and I am so sad that I am already nearing the last book. I don’t want to say goodbye. Just like the previous three, this book was amazing as well. Character-wise, Tristan Caine and his books are still my favourites in the series, but I can’t say anything bad about Alessandro either. He was such a well-written and well-thought-out character; I was in love with the entire book.
I don’t understand why he is not as hyped as Dante or Tristan because our boy definitely has some qualities that make him very precious to me. He is such a deep character that deserves more focus, and the little minx that saved him from his misery… I am at a loss for words. RuNyx knows how to make an unstable woman happy and bothered, and I am not even ashamed of it!
Every time I talk about this series, I keep mentioning how much I enjoy the general plot that has been unfolding over the past four books. There is a greater plot that includes many sensitive topics, eventually touching every single character in the book once or twice. Our characters are still looking for the Syndicate, trying to make sense of it, and attempting to stop it because this horrible organization keeps hurting little children, women, and innocent people every single day. While the general plot continues, we are introduced to two amazing characters. Actually, one of them was already introduced in the third book as a guest and a shocking plot twist. The male main character of the book is named Alessandro Villanova. He is the famous “Alpha,” the Finisher of Los Fortis, who built a kingdom for himself while he was just a boy on the streets. In the third book, we didn’t get much detail about him, but we knew what he was doing in general. At the end of the third book, we see him with a woman, and this book starts a few weeks prior to that.
One day, when I have money, I’m going to buy you the prettiest ring, sunshine.”
Here comes our female lead of the book: Zephyr. I do not know how to describe this woman. I really love the female characters in this series; all of them are incredibly well-developed, strong, and have their own lives instead of being just accessories in a dark romance book. They are perfectly written, and I didn’t expect anything less when it came to Zephyr, but I wasn’t expecting her to be a chaotic little minx. I love it! I love how strong she is and how much she sacrifices and works for the things she wants. She is definitely one of the best female characters in dark romance books I have read, and this characteristic is so refreshing because this time around, our main focus was on her willpower to get the man she loves with all her heart to remember her.
Alessandro is not a good man, and he definitely has a very fascinating reputation in the city he has built. I want to say the city he has built because he literally changed the entire city of Los Fortis, protecting those who need protection and offering options to those who never had a chance. He may be the big bad wolf of the pack, but when it comes to protecting those who don’t have a voice, he’s a literal monster, and he does everything in his power to make sure it happens. He has golden eyes and lots of trauma from his past, and when Zephyr sees him and realizes that he is her “Alpha,” the book starts to pick up its pace. Their relationship is incredibly complicated because, on the one hand, we have this very strong-willed woman who is focused on getting the love she wants from the man she loves, and on the other hand, we have this man who is haunted by his past and stuck in the role of a cruel man killing people in his city under his name. There was a lot of action in the plot, and I was on the edge of my seat with every single page I read. It was thrilling and refreshing.
The steam and romance were so well done. I want to scream right now. From the hardest part of their relationship to the moment of acknowledgement and accepting each other, it was very well balanced with lots of steamy scenes. We still have this mysterious figure, the Shadow Man, who we don’t know much about and who plays a larger role in the story. I cannot wait to read the last book in the series, but I’m so sad that I will have to say goodbye to these amazing characters.
Overall, this book was everything I needed at the right time. I am simply in awe of how well these books are written and I can’t stop thinking about them. I have actually persuaded three friends to start reading the series, and so far, they are loving it. I believe that if you enjoy dark-themed adult romance books, this is a series you should get your hands on. Full respect for this amazing author for bringing these strong characters to us. Until I see you in my next blog post, please stay safe, friends.
