The Maddest Obsession by Danielle Lori (Made #2)

How about because I love you, Gianna? Because I think I have since the moment I saw you? Because if you weren’t in this world anymore, I would find a way to take myself out of it?”

Hey friends! Welcome back to another book review. Today, we’re diving into the second book of the Made Series by Danielle Lori—The Maddest Obsession. If you thought the first book was something, let me proudly tell you that this one is definitely my favourite out of all three books I have read from this series. Just wait until you hear about Christian and Gianna, please lol.

Let’s start with our leading lady, Gianna Marino. Gianna is a fiery and open-hearted girl we met in the first book. Although she seemed kind of annoying in the first book, I knew the second would be about her and our deliciously overprotective Christian. She is married, and this marriage is unfortunately not going well for a young and beautiful woman who has a will to live. Nobody respects her because they consider her dangerous, someone who doesn’t show their true colours. In the first book, I believed that image, but right after the second book started, I saw how deep her character was. This is why she is one of my favourites in the mafia romance books I have read so far. She is full of life, strong, and knows what she wants, but up until her story takes a turn with Christian, she never had the option to express her desires or opinions.

Then there’s Christian Allister—our mysterious, dark, brooding, and obsessively protective man. In the first book, he is close to Nico, although he’s in the force and working actively there. He’s got this cold, meticulous exterior, and besides Gianna, he doesn’t show anything to the outside world. He has severe OCD, and he manages it professionally. OCD is not easy to handle, and from what I read, his OCD affects many parts of his life, making it challenging to control certain reactions through therapy and hard work. His past is a complete misery until the second part of the book. All we know is that he had to watch Gianna get married twice, even though he was utterly in love with her in his own way. The saddest part is that they were both attracted to each other, but their attraction was on a different level because they knew they were meant to be, yet circumstances never allowed them to try something because, in the mafia world, you fear for your life and the life of the person you love the most. This is why I found their relationship to be the deepest among the other two in the series. They are so desperate for each other, and in the first part of the book, you read in-depth about everything that happened to them through Gianna’s eyes. Then, in the second part, everything picks up where it left off from the first book, and they finally have a chance to become one.

Their relationship is insane. They are like two stars drawn to each other with each passing day, and their only hope is the idea of being together one day. Besides that, Gianna has a great sense of humour. Although Christian’s dry responses don’t show it, I know he was secretly amused. She is such a well-written, strong character, always finding positivity even in the worst situations.

Their story is quite sad because they are both damaged in their own ways due to their pasts. These damages prevent them from loving each other the way they deserve. While it may not heal everything in the blink of an eye, I felt like these two characters could spend years together, finding something to laugh about every single day and healing wounds they didn’t cause. The lengths Christian is willing to go for Gianna are incredibly hardcore. I loved his character and how everything unravelled over time. Now that we know he is Russian, the things he says to her are very heartwarming. Yes, he fits the stereotype of the possessive “touch my wife and I will kill you” type of guy, but am I complaining? Not really. He was spot on.

Overall, I must say that I loved this book. It was a solid five-star read for me. From the thrilling scenes to the steamy aspects, it was everything a dark romance reader could want from a mafia plot.

Thanks for sticking around for this review. Stay tuned for the next one in the series, and until then, stay safe, friends! 📖
