pen-demonium: jinhao 82 fountain pen

Hello friends! ❤️ Welcome to my blog. This is the first post of my new series “pen-demonium.” In this series, I will share my love, thoughts, and enthusiasm about pens of all sorts with you. I have been thinking of creating this series for a while, and I didn’t have any idea about where to start, but after some planning, I’ve come up with the idea of pen-demonium, providing all my thoughts on a variety of pens to stationery enthusiasts all around! If you see me on social media (mainly on Instagram), you know that I do calligraphy with both modern pencils and dipping pens, have an addiction to gel pens and fountain pens, and simply adore the motion of writing on paper. Although blogging is one of my biggest characteristics, I have been a writer ever since I could remember. Thus, I thought these posts could bring some joy to people like me around!

The first pen of the series is a brand that is very new to me. I met Jinhao pens late last year, and I instantly fell in love with them. Back then, I didn’t know they were dupes of one after the most famous fountain pens. I do not have the budget to try sailor pens out, however, I am quite sure that they are perfect in every possible way. In my case, I haven’t tried many prestige fountain pens mainly because of the budget and also because this is incredibly new for me I am trying to learn better to put money into something more knowledgeable. So I rather not spend a lot of money on a pen that I would not be able to use and enjoy properly. Regarding the two I have here, I must say that for Chinese dupes, I am incredibly impressed. I wasn’t expecting them to be good at all, and both of them are F nibs (my handwriting is very small and I really enjoy thin letters), and I was expecting them to be somewhat scratchy and unable to hold glitter ink.

I was completely wrong. These pens hold glitter ink so well and they are so smooth. I don’t know what to say other than I am genuinely impressed. They are very ergonomic, even after long periods of writing, my fingers do not hurt as much as they hurt when I’m using my Lamy Safari for instance. They are on the shorter side, but they are not as short as Kaweco Sport, and maybe the most beautiful part about these pens is the fact that they come in a huge variety of colours. I do not want to be a hoarder and start collecting pens that I will not be able to use, however, every single one of them is perfect!

I have one transparent glitter and a pale blue. I got the pale blue at first and was so impressed with the quality and the comfort of the pen that I thought to myself: “This could be an everyday writing tool for me” and ended up getting the second one. I usually do not change the ink in my fountain pens because I am a colour-coded worker. I am not lazy and I clean my pens regularly, but you know what I mean. Whether it was my studies at school or my job notes, I always colour-coded things. I do clean my fountain pens monthly (which has become a therapeutic session for me once a month), and I keep putting the same colours in the same pens at all times. And yes, I do put the colours to certain pens, depending on the colour of the pen as well. I know this is not something that “real enthusiasts” care to do, but this is how my brain works. I would go insane if I tried to put green ink into a bright red pen. Whether you call this OCD or a funny thing that I do, this is my reality. If I choose a certain colour for certain, I will keep using it with the same ink in the same pen. My ink selection is fairly limited at the moment but they are enough for me since I can cover all my pens comfortably right now.

For the pale blue version of Jinhao 82, I use Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black with a few drops of the glitter potion from the brand Wearingeul. It works like magic I must be honest. For the transparent glitter one, I am using Pelikan Edelstein in Golden Beryl, a perfect glittery gold that looks like ambrosia!

Overall, for beginners like me who want to get better at writing with fountain pens, who enjoy using fountain pens and who are on a tight budget, these pens will work magic for you, I can guarantee that. They come with their converters as well, and although the converters themselves are not very high quality, as someone who fills her pens with a syringe, I do not mind. For this price, I believe it is a steal. 🤭 Their quality is very good and they write like butter. Would you use Jinhao? Let me know! Until I see you in my next post, stay safe friends! ✒️✨
