Misconduct by Penelope Douglas

Hello everyone! ❤️ Thank you so much for taking your time to be here and welcome to yet another book review.

Today’s book was a favourite of mine during May, and although I thought Penelope Douglas was mainly a dark romance author it actually surprised me to read something this normal from her period by normal, I mean that this was just a beautiful adult romance with not many dark themes inside. I really like this kind of regular adult romance book from Samantha Young, Sylvia Day etc, and I must say I really enjoyed this book. Sometimes all you need is the not-so-toxic relationship in books, and this exactly gave me what I needed in terms of that. Now before I bore you with my long entries let me start writing about the book.

Our book follows 2 main characters. And I really enjoyed the narrative changes between chapters because it provides an additional view of the characters, and helps you to understand what they are feeling basically. Our female main character is Easton Bradbury, the prodigy tennis player, a retired tennis player to be exact, and right now she is a teacher in a high school. Our male character is Tyler Marek (and I thought this name was completely weird but whatever floats the author’s boat I guess), who is the epitome of being a strong man with everything he wants. And although it also comes from the family Tyler is a hardworking man who fights for everything. He is portrayed as a man who has no time for his life and is pretty blunt, currently going for elections because he needs the power to change something in the world, the best quality he had in his character. The urge to make something good.

The tension between our characters starts way before they are officially introduced to each other. It is Mardi Gras; everyone is enjoying themselves and they find each other very much interested in who they are. Of course, this was the start of their plot however I think the actual beginning is when she becomes his son’s teacher. Christian is a hard kid, and he has every right to be. After growing up with a father figure although he was not his real father, he took care of him so well that once Tyler comes into the picture Christian immediately refuses his entire existence. In this case, the book has two plots. The first plot is the relationship between Easton and Tyler. The second plot is the relationship between Tyler and Christian and both learning how to be father and son. Maybe this was why I really enjoyed the book, because often in adult romance books, the plot gets lost between the tension and the steamy scenes between the characters; however, this time I read the pain and the growing of a father and a son meanwhile I enjoyed reading this newfound love between our two main characters.

Easton has a traumatic past and she is trying to overcome this while Tyler makes her feel like she is worth trying to overcome the fears that she has been haunted by ever since everything happened. She also has a brother who in the end gives you the biggest plot twist which I will not spoil for you, however, I kind of understand where he was coming from as well because it is just sad to see the competition between siblings. Something I not-so-often had in my life but I know that exists and it is very much real. Overall I really enjoyed the respect that they built together and Tyler’s efforts to become a good father to his son whom he ended up leaving for a very long time. I saw some reviews on Goodreads about the age gap between our main characters but to be fair with you I read completely disregarding plots this age gap thing is not really bothering me at this point LOL.

If you have time to read a very quick and easy-to-read book I highly suggest Misconduct. Everything was on point and I am happy that I spent time reading it.

Until I see you in my next blog post take care friends! 🌙✨
