Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Hello there! 🫂 Welcome to another book review post. We are continuing with another Hoover book and hands down, this was my favourite book I have read from her so far. It was a really good book in my opinion because I really liked the balance between personal growth, pain, and learning from mistakes all together.

Our book is about a nursing student who feels like she wants to do a lot more with her life and decides to focus on her career. Her name is Tate, and I must say that I love girls who are aware of their mistakes or weaknesses. As you read the book, you will understand what I mean by that because, from the beginning of the book, our male character informs her that everything between them is only artificial and there will be no future. However, the heart works in a significantly different way than our brain does, which means that Tate is actually fighting with these emotions while trying to grow as a person but also wanting the best for the person that she ends up falling in love with.

Our male character’s name is Miles, and he is a pilot. He is incredibly handsome and well-built, and he does his job really well. However, there is this dark cloud hanging around his head; up until the last quarter of the book, although you can imagine that something had gone very wrong in his past, he fights for everything. His battle is a rather silent one, but he does fight with everything in his own way.

I will not spoil anything for you in the book because I think both characters were highlighted in a very unique way throughout the book. The language was incredibly good, and I really liked the narrative changes between chapters, but not only that, I really enjoyed reading Miles’ perspective a lot more than I liked Tate’s because the way the author wrote his parts was very primal. It almost sounded like thoughts instead of just a narrative. You could feel his pain and his chaos as he explained what happened in his past. The pain he carries on his shoulders is not just the pain of losing a loved one or trying to make his cold heart love again… No, it is much more than that. It was the forgiveness of oneself to move on. It was the forgiveness that you let yourself live and breathe again. For six years, he hasn’t been able to breathe and I liked the complexity he had. Yes, there were times he acted like a jerk, I am not going to clear his name completely, however, as you read through the book, you understand where this pain comes from how miserable his life actually is and how much he thinks that he doesn’t deserve to breathe.

An open question I asked myself as I was reading this book is: Is it possible to forgive yourself after something that you choose to do for something that is beyond your control? And I came to the conclusion that as long as you are aware of the consequences and the things that you did to prevent this from happening, I believe each soul deserves a second chance.

I cried while I was reading this book, I laughed while I was reading this book, and there were times that I felt like the book was full of nonsense. But I felt like it completed great development within several hundreds of pages, and I’m so happy that I ended up reading it. I truly don’t know what else I’m supposed to say. It was just a very wholesome book that I really liked.

Give it a chance, I would say, and I will see you in my next blog. Stay safe! 🌸
