The Reaper by RuNyx (Dark Verse #2)

Hello, friends! 🙋🏻‍♀️💕 Welcome to another book review. I know it’s quite interesting for me to be consistent, but I ended up reading good books at the end of April and immediately wanted to write down the reviews and share with you how I feel about them. Today’s book review is the continuation of last week’s review. Today, we are going to talk about more of the Dark Verse series with the second book, “The Reaper.” If you are ready, buckle up because we are into yet another dark romance book.

The second book immediately starts where you left off in the first book, and I usually prefer series like that. I do not like too much of a time gap between each book unless it is necessary for the plot. I assume for the third book, this may be the case, however, I haven’t read it yet, so I cannot speak without actually seeing it. Our main characters are still the same: the nerdy, hot, and clever tech genius Morana Vitalio; and the mysterious, savage Tristan “The Predator” Caine, with those glorious sharp blue eyes of his.

Our main characters are still looking for some answers. Both for these dangerous codes Morana had created and for an answer to what actually “Alliance” is. And the more you read in the book, the closer you get to having some answers. We see a new range of characters, and the title of this book is actually another character that was foreshadowed in the first book but we didn’t really have much idea of it. Of course, I am not going to tell you this and spoil it for you, however, I must say that this discovering an identity trope is something that I really enjoy in books. I was quite impressed with the twists the author managed to add in this book although some of them felt like I already knew by the time they were unraveled.

The development of our characters for all three of them which I consider as the main characters for the first three books is immense. I’m not talking about the relationship between Tristan and Morana only; I really enjoy how respectful they are to each other and how much space they give to each other to adjust to this huge change. Neither Tristan nor Morana are used to having someone that they can fully trust in their lives, and throughout the entire book, that message is very clearly given: that good relationships take time. They require hard work. It doesn’t happen in an instant where you can have the trust that you want to give to the person in front of you. This way their development was something else, and I really appreciate this while reading it, however, the main development that I mention or the things that happen to characters individually.

First things first, Tristan now feels somewhat ready to accept his new reality and has to move on from the past that actually hurt him so much. He has to move on from this burden that he carried since he was a little child and has to give up on the thoughts of revelation. Because the revelation and freedom he expected to get is not going to happen after everything he feels towards Morana. On her side, she realizes how serious this world is. I didn’t feel like she was a character who was closing her eyes and ears to everything that was going on; on the opposite, I felt in the first book as well that she was a reliable and realistic character who knew right from wrong. Now she also realizes that everything she has gone through is beyond her control and decides to strengthen herself in order to survive in this very, very dark world. The third character is one of the main characters in the book, Dante, as I have mentioned in the previous book review, and he also developed some sort of understanding and the ethics of working together as a team. Of course, these two books were not his main books so it wasn’t too clear what kind of changes he was going through; however, one thing is sure: he started learning how to become a team player. And I have to be honest, I cannot wait to read the third book. I already said it, but I am so excited to learn what comes from his story.

The main twist in the book actually comes from two villainous characters that we have met in the book already: their fathers. Dante’s father and Morana’s father specifically. It was shocking, to say the least how everything unravelled; however, one thing I really liked was the fact that they adapted to their new reality after everything happened in that flocked W, which I’m not going to spoil for you, again, and the book wrapped up very nicely leaving me expecting a very nice third book.

The steam was amazing, and the tension was even better, especially I really enjoyed reading about the friendship that they built and how much of a smile that brought to my face every time I read all three together. Nevertheless, this was a great second book of a great series, and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books. They are so exciting. Until I see you in my next post, stay safe! ⭐🌸
