Hello friends! Welcome or welcome back to my blog, thank you for taking the time to visit here, it means a lot to me. š
Today’s blog post is yet another book review and it is the second book of a mafia/ dark romance series that I started last year. I do believe that this is just a mediocre series to me but sometimes I just need a dark romance which is easy to read and doesn’t require too much brain force to understand. This specifically doesn’t mean that this book is not good enough, however, I do think this is just a very basic romance book which doesn’t have much darkness in it and sometimes I find this comforting. I am always aware that the scenarios that are happening in these mafia romance books are āfairlyā exaggerated however, I do enjoy reading them. I always did. Here we are with yet another mafia romance book.𤣠There will be some spoilers because this book is very short, and it would be impossible to talk about what I liked and what I disliked while not being able to give any details. So read if you just want to hear about my thoughts on this book. If you don’t want any spoilers, I highly suggest not reading this blog post and just going and reading the book because it is short and like I have said is fairly easy to read.
Today’s book follows two funny and trustworthy characters. The head of the Irish mafia, Liam and a woman who is supposed to not have any connection with the mafia yet is part of it, Kiara. Kiara is the daughter of one of the best men Irish mafia however she does not know his connection to the Irish mafia until the second half of the book. She starts working as a receptionist in a very big company. She has been always alone with her mother, and she is a child of a one-night stand. Although her parents never got married or saw each other, she loves them both and she takes her time to do her best to visit her father from time to time.
When she starts her new job, she immediately gets the attention of a very wrong person. Not a wrong person but a complete assh*le. The little brother of the Irish mafia is unfortunately a man who enjoys very illegal things; when I say illegal things don’t mind me that the mafia in this series are doing everything and anything besides things that include children and women. So, I would say they are on the grey side when it comes to illegal activities that regular mafia do. Of course, does this make it any less irritating for a regular human being? No. When I am trying to imagine these things happening around me, I would most likely call the police however these are just fiction, and these are funny things to spend your time with for 200 and something pages. Ā When Liamās little brother starts to actually use her, she gets the attention of our male character. He is unable to touch people, and while this wasn’t filled in terms of the background, we know that he has an issue with touching people or coming close to them. However, from the moment that Liam sees Kiara immediately he feels some form of connection with her and he realises that he is not disgusted by anything that she does. Whether it is just making him a cup of coffee or a very gentle and nice hug.
It focuses on their relationship and of course, we do have an antagonist which again as I have mentioned is the brother of Liam, and he actually hurts her at one point. Liam is one of the kindest mafia male characters that I have ever read in my entire life actually makes her feel safe, and protected and fights for her. It didn’t really have as much action or darkness as the other books I tend to read but again this was comforting, I basically read this book as a romance book with a man who has problems with his family and has a very hard job and a girl who grew up with her mother and separately her father and eventually deals with loss and finds love. Of course, it is not realistic to decide anything about your future whether it is getting married or having children etc in such a short period; especially since I am a married woman it just feels odd to see how these books actually represent something it is quite impossible to get in real life, however like I have said if you just want to read this as a regular romance book it just works out that way too.
Both characters were nice, and I especially liked Liam because contrary to other characters that I have read in these kinds of romance books he was actually fairly kind. Which was something I did not expect. Like in these books, you see the male character actually doing something wrong and losing the trust of the female character and eventually trying to gain her back however this book didn’t have any of those. Like, yes, he is the head of the mafia, but he is a walking talking green flag In terms of behaviour.
Overall, this was a 3.5 star for me and I enjoyed reading it I do believe that I will finish this series this year because they are quick and whenever I feel overwhelmed with work and other books that I’m trying to read I just go back to this kind of books and specifically this series at this time and read the other books. šš
