He carefully strokes the length of my palm with his thumb. when we look at each other again, his eyes a little darker.
“I’ll fit you just right.”
Hello everyone! ⭐ Welcome to another book review post! Today’s book was from my October reads, and I must mention that I was positively impressed with the story even though I did not think that I would like it this much. Let’s talk about The Hating Game written by Sally Thorne.
Before I start anything, let me talk about the writing of the author. It has been a while since I was this thrilled about the writing of a book, and although this seems like a regular romance book, the cheesy yet cute language of the writing was so beautiful! It kept me going, every page was a new adventure, even. I really want to read more of Thorne’s books in the future, I just hope that her writing style is the same, it made me feel like I was part of the book. 🫂
The Hating Game has the most basic trope we all love in romance books, enemies to lovers. It is one of my favourites just like many other readers and reading the story in a regular setting was cute. Our main female character Lucinda Hutton comes from the suburbs, she is a loving daughter of a very loving family, and she ended up moving to the big city to accomplish her dream of becoming an editor. Everything was excellent until her company was bought by one of the biggest publishing companies and here, we meet her arch nemesis; Joshua -god damn delicious- Templeman. Ever since their companies merged she has been stuck with this amazing man who only stares at her and makes fun of her hair or clothes or anything and everything she does. Of course, as you go through the book you will realise that this is more of an action of a child because if you remember when we were kids the boys who liked the girl would pull the hair make fun of her and make her life harder? It was exactly like that, making me very much giddy inside. They are both hard workers who want to achieve something and think they “hate” each other a lot. 🌸
Joshua Templeman Is a man of order he most likely has OCD, and has everything in order, nothing goes unnoticed by him and like Lucy he is a very hard worker who wants to achieve something. We do learn some background from him, and we quickly realise that his character has more depth in it. I rather not spoil this part to you because I think it is one of the important plot twists in the book, which cannot be considered as a plot twist, but it is important to understand his character and his behaviour. The tension between these two is incredibly intense and they both are understanding, non-toxic, just walking talking green flag characters.
🌶️-wise, this was a regular romance, and I simply enjoyed reading the story a lot. There was a time in my life when I wanted to be an editor (I am serious lol) and reading about this made me incredibly happy. Their games, their interactions with each other, the selflessness and care in their relationship… everything was just purely magical. And before someone comes after me and tells me that “Mel, he was being jealous”; I am well aware but their behaviour towards this “easily poisoned” feeling was so right, I do not accept anything said otherwise.
Overall, I loved this book with every cell in my body and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading light-hearted romance books!
See you in my next blog, take care! 📖❤️
