Hello friends! Today’s post is quite exciting for me because I get to talk about one of my favourite things on the entire planet: Webtoons. Some call them Korean manga, some call them manwha, and some call them manhua, at this point: I don’t really know or care. I just met this amazing colourful world a few years ago and I have been reading non-stop ever since! Most of them are free to read on the app Webtoon (I wish I could say that this was an ad but nope, hear me out Webtoon! lol) and you can read them simply on your phone. Let’s get into the first part of my favourites list, shall we? 🌸
#1 LORE OLYMPUS by Rachel Smythe
This amazing re-telling of Hades & Phersephone webtoon has been one of my favourites for years now. I wake up every Sunday morning to open my phone without even getting up from bed and reading the latest chapter. I am a hoe for everything and anything related to Greek mythology and let me tell you something: this… this is everything for those who love reading re-tellings. I made almost all of my friends read it, I encourage you to read it, I want everyone to read it and appreciate how beautiful this story is. Rachel Smythe is a genius and I love everything about this masterpiece.
#2 THE RUNWAY by Domi/Nokdu
This is an amazing romance story. Heartwarming, with lots of personal growth, a respectful relationship and a great insight into the regular daily life of a fashion editor and her love interest, her chief in the same magazine. I enjoy reading stories like this because they feel very down-to-earth and something very easy to find and see around you. There are a lot of side characters and drama as well and the way our main characters deal with things thrown at them shows how human they are. I really like this and I would recommend it to you too!
#3 MY IN-LAWS ARE OBSESSED WITH ME by Seungu/Han Yoon Seol
My favourite stories usually include some form of reincarnation and this beauty is no different. Our main character wakes up one day to find herself that she is not dead and decides to get help from the HOT, DARK, BROODING AND HANDSOME Duke. I love this story, not because of the romance (tbh, it is quite non-existent at this point but I am rooting for them) but also the story behind it. She is trying to figure out her feelings towards her family, her father’s death etc. It is worth your time so go and enjoy!
#4 WHO MADE ME A PRINCESS by Spoon/Pluto
It’s another reincarnation story with amazing art. this webtoon was actually the first one I’ve ever read and it will forever be one of my favourites. We follow our beautiful female protagonist as she works her heart out to stay alive. Yes, to stay alive because our girl actually reincarnates in a world with political games, a cold and disoriented father (the glorious king himself hell yeah) and magic. I love how strong her portrayal is and the fact that everything she has gained is because of her own HARDWORK makes everything better for me. You will love the story!
#5 YOUR THRONE by SAM
Another favourite of mine is Your Throne. The story is very political, with very little romance, and boy don’t I love it? We follow our two female protagonists throughout the story and see these perfectly powerful women fight against the bad in the kingdom to clear their names and gain the respect they deserve. It is not very young-friendly due to the political and bloody aspects of it but if that’s your jam and you enjoy this shit, by all means. It is a very long story and all available on the app too!
#6 DAYTIME STAR by Chaeun/Godago
An actress trying her way through fame and social life, a top actor living his best life, buried in fame. This story follows our aspiring actress and her life as she does her best to make a place in the industry. There is a lot of drama, lots of heartbreaks, some steam here and there, and lots of hope and passion towards what they love: acting and each other. I binged this in one night and I am not regretting it even a bit! The story is very heart-warming and filled with amazing details. Also the clothes drawn in the story? Delightful.
#7 THE REMARRIED EMPRESS by Alphatart/Sumpul
By now, I am sure you understand that I love stories with historical settings, politics and love triangles. The Remarried Empress gives you exactly what you need: a destructive love triangle, politics between two kingdoms, characters that are strong as hell (exclude Trashta from that-) and amazing art expressing all the glory of a kingdom setting. I’ve been reading it since the day it came out on Webtoon and I cannot wait to read more since everything got way better in season 2. Give this one a try too!
#8 UNHOLY BLOOD by Lina Im/Jeonghyeon Kim
Ready for some good old vampires? I’ve got you with this beautiful fantasy webtoon! Unholy Blood (or white blood depending on the translation) is one of the best fantasy/vampire stories I’ve ever read. It is nothing new but the art and the storyline are so beautiful that it makes you want to keep reading. We have one female fatale who grows up and finds herself in her powers and the war between humans and vampires. The amazing thing is that the story is finished so you can binge-read it in a few days (or a day if you are too obsessed) and enjoy the story. (It is bloody though, mind that.)
#9 DEATH IS THE ONLY ENDING FOR THE VILLAINESS by KWON/Gyeoeul
Another reincarnation story? A very good one with a lot of family drama, a strong female lead, solid romance attempts and amazing art? Hell yeah! This might easily be one of my favorite webtoons of all time. From the beginning, story only gets better and better as you wat
#10 THE VILLAINESS IS A MARIONETTE by Han Yi Rim
The last webtoon on my list is another favourite of mine and it is a new addition to my reading collection but made its way through pretty quickly! It is again one of those political webtoons I love quite a lot, including a femme fatale, a woman ready to destroy everything in order to get her life back. In order not to die. The art is fantastic and the male lead…😳 Damn SIR. Read it whenever you can!
